Color Combinations – Which Are Off Limits?

We grow up learning rules of all types.  We learn rules of the household, rules of the schools we attend, rules of proper behavior, and even rules of what we can and cannot (or should not) wear.  Included in these sartorial rules, we learn certain colors do not “go” together.   For years I believed navy and black do not belong in combination, and if I wore black separates the blacks had to match each other.  Both of those rules have now been thrown out the window and deemed outdated by the fashion powers that be.

These days I love combining navy and black.  It opens up a world of outfit combinations to me which were previously off limits.  I would like to challenge you to find new color combinations in your closet and start breaking a few of the style rules you learned in your upbringing.

Here are some color combination examples to get you going which I put together on Polyvore:

Navy & Black

Olive & Coral

Teal & Mustard

What are some of your ideas?  Feel free to share them in the comments section.  If you need help, call me.  Showing you how to shop your closet is one of my favorite things to do for my clients.
